Westfield
The 'city within a city', Westfield's £1.45 billion retail behemoth snakes through the Olympic site, with 300 retail units - the cornerstones of which are gigantic versions of High Street brands John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Waitrose - 70 restaurants, bars and cafés, and a 17-screen digital cinema. So far, mega-mall, but Westfield Stratford City has attempted to be lead a little by its east London neighbours, looking inwards to the creative hubs of Shoreditch and Hoxton (rather than outwards to Romford and Billericay). Projects like Studio East - an industry panel that includes Roland Mouret, Tracey Emin, Tom Dixon and Erin O'Connor - has given opportunites to young British creatives, awarding them opportunities to create uniforms, lighting systems, public art and environmental projects for the Westfield Stratford City site. A fresh food market, The Great Eastern Market, looks set to give opportunites to small, independent producers enjoying a guaranteed customer-base: Westfield has projected a phenomenal footfall of 10 million during the Olympics in 2012 - in a stroke of planning genius, the route to the stadium passes right through the centre of Stratford City.

amaaaazingg! though everything is waay expensive....but still;)
Great selection of food and drink places and good variety of shops. Very conveniently close to where I live! Went on a Saturday two weeks before Christmas and it was relatively quiet until around 2.30pm, at which point the masses descended. That said, unless you're in a small, popular shop, it's mainly the concourses that are packed. Shops not too bad.
I've heard the parking facilities are great. I didn't realise until too late that there are also very handy cloakrooms and bag stores, so no need to lug stuff around.
I'm very impressed, find it convenient, child friendly and amazing even for quick trips
The best thing is the child wrist bands in case they get lost, the only problem is they don't advertise it enough so ppl are unaware the service is there
The shopping centre ticks all the boxes, its convenient but from observation the main flaw is allowing hoodies and baseball caps groups of youths in large groups are intimidating the shopping centre should follow bluewaters example and not allow baseball caps and start a precedent and not allow hoods to be worn up other than that its great.
" in a stroke of planning genius, the route to the stadium passes right through the centre of Stratford City."
Sorry to nitpick, but what's 'genius' about forcing a captive paying audience to trudge through a nightmare of consumerism whether they like it or not. "Obvious, depressing, an abuse of commercial power, and symbolic of capitalism crushing the life and enjoyment out of sport", would surely be a more accurate description?
I'm sure it's just me.Great that Westfield is open, and providing jobs to the area, and all that but...considering the socio demographic of the area couldn't they have got a darker model to hold the pop corn in their latest ad in the current Time Out.The woman is some what Aryan, albeit in a Photoshop way,but still...must be me.City Limits would've had more to say I'm sure back in the day.
Another one of those successfull "sustainable" project for East London...
Made in Coe's crooks company. What a joke
