The potential of the dank manmade caverns beneath Waterloo station was realised by theatre company Punchdrunk and the Old Vic in 2009, when a series of interactive, left-field happenings were staged under the label ‘Tunnel 228’. In 2010, the Old Vic went it alone, programming a season of in-house works and pieces by visiting companies in the subterranean venue. The dark, atmospheric Old Vic Tunnels proves a fitting venue for pop up art events, film screenings and site-specific theatre.
