The line between 'parable for our times' and 'predictable' sounds rather thin in this new musical about a fame hungry singer who betrays his best mate and childhood sweetheart to win a popular talent show, only to discover that record companies can be a tad controlling and fame ain't all it's cracked up to be. But it's written from experience – Nick Fogarty (music, lyrics and book) signed to RCA when he was 21, and went on to write or produce over 60 records (including some by the Hoff). And Darren Day, who'll play singer Mike Chariot, has also been quick to point out the parallels between his own and his characters' showbiz experiences. Guy Retallack directs. It has recently been announced that due to overseas funding issues, the show has been postponed.
