Eating, drinking and being merry is a fine way to celebrate a person, and the great artist, satirist and portraitist William Hogarth would no doubt approve of this evening event in his honour. Your hosts are Tate Britain, who are championing British ingredients in a three-course menu specially designed for the event and inspired by some of Hogarth's best-known works. Guests will enjoy a private viewing of the gallery's Hogarth Room with an introduction to the artist before a cocktail and gin tasting session in the Tate's Grand Saloon, during which wood pigeon and cured salmon canapés will be served. Artworks such as 'The Shrimp Girl' and 'O the Roast Beef of Old England' are the muses of the dinner menu, so guests will tuck into crab and brown shrimp cannelloni and roast forerib of Longhorn beef and beer-braised cheek with parsley and bone marrow. Each course will be served with a glass of wine to match, and the Rex Whistler restaurant's pillars and murals will provide appropriately quirky surroundings.
