[title]
Britain's come a long way since VE Day and this festival will look at changes in society, culture and politics over the last 70 years. Asking whether the values of 1951's Festival of Britain, instigated to encourage a feeling of recovery and progress following World War II, still stand today, it will look at themes such as equality, fairness and social injustice. Highlights include the Hayward Gallery's major exhibition 'History is Now: Seven Artists Take On Britain', newly commissioned orchestral works performed by the London Sinfonietta and a series of concerts by the BBC Concert Orchestra. The three weekends ahead of the General Election will be packed with talks and debates.
