Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter
Fans of the books (and the films, and the Lego sets, and the Primark pyjamas…) will be authentically blown away by an actual stroll down Diagon Alley, into the Great Hall and alongside the Hogwarts Express at the original location where much of the tale of the Boy Who Lived was filmed. Some complain it’s not exactly cheap (£107 for a family of four) but pay no attention to the whiney Muggles; this tour is pure magic.

Children’s bookshop
A Muswell Hill stalwart for over forty years, this bookish haven is stacked from floor to ceiling with titles for kids of all ages. Especially good at meeting the needs of younger and more inexperienced readers, expert staff know just when to back off, and when to offer a wise guiding hand. Read it and weep, Amazon.

Amble down the hill from Great Missenden Station through the sweet and narrow streets and you can’t miss the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre – just look out for the Quentin Blake murals on its walls. The content inside is aimed at six-12 year-olds and makes a fantastic interactive day out.

Discover is a magical world where children up to the age of 11 can embark on an indoor story trail, aided and abetted by fantastic characters whose role is to help kids invent their own stories. Dressing-up outfits, finger puppets, drawing materials and the Story Garden outdoor play area – with slides, greenery, monsters and funny mirrors – help fuel young imaginations.
Oh, the places you’ll go (well… Stratford). This brand-new tribute to the Green Eggs And Ham legend (not technically a doctor, he only added the prefix to make his old man proud) features immersive takes on The Lorax and The Cat In The Hat. Lucky kids aged seven and under will also get to play along with the Boom Band and encounter Sam-I-Am. Nonsensical but marvellous.
