Serious cold water swimmers will already have signed up for this biennial event, where water temperatures as low as 3°C make just the act of jumping in for the 30 yard races a huge achievement. At time of writing there were still spaces for swimmers in individual heats, but cheering everyone on might be a good consolation prize if you don't get to sign up in time. A variety of races includes the traditional “head-up” breaststroke, relays, and the 450-metre challenge (for the really mad keen competitor). Food, stalls and entertainment will be available throughout the day.
