OperaUpClose give Homer's 'Odyssey' a modern spin with this retelling for families wanting to introduce operatic music to their offspring from a young age. The production brings together a live score and puppetry to tell the story of 14 year old Ulla who sets off to sail the world single-handedly with only her cat to keep her company. Navigating the waves is trickier than first anticipated however, with Ulla and her feline friend encountering mythical creatures, troublesome characters and the voices of her loved ones tempting her home. Those looking to make a day of it will be pleased to hear the company have also joined forces with the House of Illustration for the Big Day Out. A special ticket offers drawing workshops covering character and theatre design at the neighbouring venue, plus lunch at the Green & Fortune Cafe and entry to the matinee performance.
