Borgen
Sat Nov 30, 9-11pm, BBC4
‘Borgen’ is great, whipsmart entertainment. But it isn’t always subtle. The first of tonight’s pair of episodes is a case in point; a storyline involving the legal status of prostitution in Denmark is used as a prism through which to view lesser gradations of sexual transaction. Occasionally it feels clunky, particularly where Katrine’s relationship with the infuriating Alex is involved.
In the second episode, Torben’s rather sad disintegration continues as his gobbledegook-addled nemesis continues to turn the screw and an old friend refuses to lend a hand. But mainly, the focus is on Søren Ravn (Lars Mikkelsen), economics genius, former communist and prospective New Democrat candidate.
Regular Scandi-fans with be delighted to be reunited with hunky Troels Hartmann from ‘The Killing’, but may also chuckle, once more at Denmark’s amusingly interconnected thespian mafia. Reliably classy Saturday night fare; we can’t believe there are only four episodes to go.
