The gastropub motif (antiqued mirrors, Edison bulbs, reclaimed wood) at this Mid-City bar, though suitably executed, seems at odds with the cosmetic clientele (re: Beverly Hills spillover) who mix and mingle on the see-and-be-seen outdoor patio. Those not quite posh enough are relegated to the second floor where DJs play, while a photo booth attracts guests of the attached Orlando Hotel. (Guests can also order room service from the Churchill’s kitchen.) Bar snacks can dazzle—the menu is modern, American—like the duck fat popcorn ($5) dusted with chipotle salt. Pair with straightforward wines by the glass and 20 craft beers on tap.
Vitals
Good for: Happy hour runs twice, from 3pm to 7pm and again from 9pm to midnight, featuring $4 well drinks, wine and craft beer. Brunch is daily 7am-4pm when $15 gets you bottomless mimosas and $6 Bloody Marys keep your Sunday fun day going.
The scene: Once past the bouncer, staff dart about and tend to ignore guests who want a moment to look over the menu before ordering a drink. Those who want to be seen stake a spot on the outdoor patio, while inside, groups and couples stake out the bar and banquette.
The playlist: The playlist is beholden to DJs, Thursday through Sunday and the vibe varies from dance-party mix to electronic indie.
