On September 26, about 1,300 museums around the country are offering free admission as part of Smithsonian Magazine's Museum Day Live! While you can't just walk in, getting access is simple: all you have to do is go to the event's website and download a ticket that lets you into all the participating spots—including 12 in Los Angeles. A complete list of the participating museums can be found online, and will be updated as more decide to join.

Some of the museums are free year-round (like the Fowler Museum at UCLA), but for others like the Autry, now is your chance to sample the exhibits without shelling out some cash. If you are looking to spend some time Downtown, check out the Grammy Museum. Afterward, head over to the nearby Japanese American National Museum. If you're in the Miracle Mile area, there are three options located in close proximity to each other.

When there's so much to do around the city this month—there's rooftop screenings, Oktoberfest biergartens and Halloween fright nights—but add this to the list and save a few bucks.
