Stand in a Downtown alleyway full of falling flowers on Saturday

Angelenos love art installations that seem to fall from the sky (i.e. Rain Room) or appear out of nowhere (i.e. Dumb Starbucks, Griffith Park Tea House).

The anonymous collective behind that last project is chasing after both of those concepts with Petal Drop LA (01). For one day only, thousands of flower petals will flutter into a narrow Downtown alleyway. You'll find the installation on Saturday only, sandwiched between the former Cameo and Arcade theaters (between 530 and 532 South Broadway).

According to the LA Times, the performance will employ over 7,000 cups of flower petals, along with small strips of paper on which visitors can write their own memories of LA. The anonymous organizers, in an interview with KCRW, say they chose the alleyway for its serene contrast to the surrounding area; a spot that once "smelled more like decaying pigeon carcasses and urine" will now emit an aroma of dried flowers—temporarily at least.

Petal Drop LA (01) takes place on Saturday, February 6, from dawn to dusk in an alleyway between 530 and 532 S Broadway. Follow the installation's Twitter and Instagram accounts for updates.
