Turning 80 is a pretty big deal. And if you're the Dalai Lama? Well, pretty much anything you do is a big deal, which is why we feel honored that His Holiness has chosen to celebrate the occasion here in LA. Okay, technically it's in Anaheim—not to upstage Disneyland's 60th anniversary milestone.

The Dalai Lama will be leading a three-day Global Compassion Summit, including the aforementioned birthday party on July 5 at the Honda Center. Tickets for the birthday talk go on sale today at 10am ($35 to $180 before fees). Expect to hear a discussion on compassion, creativity and art, as well as performances by Tibetan children and to-be-announced renown musicians.

On July 6 and 7, the Dalai Lama will tackle climate change, discuss wisdom with Nobel laureates and stress the importance of education during three panels at the Bren Events Center at UC Irvine. The list of speakers will trickle out closer to the summit, but you can pick up individual tickets to those panels ($30-$90) starting today.
