Chef Jesse Barber is changing things up at South Venice —a place that is often associated with sandy slices of pizza rather than fine culinary—by serving a soulful and rustic menu of small and shared plates, small-production wines and beers in his intimate neighborhood restaurant just steps away from the beach.
Expect the food to be robust in flavors, as they are all imbused with Mediterranean and Japanese flavors and texture. Don't walk out of the restaruant without ordering the "Daily Catch"($18) — selection of market-fresh fish of the day. Even though the type of fish available may vary from day to day, the freshness remains to be immutable. Also noteworthy is their house-made braised sausage($11), serves with soft poached egg, cabbage and pickle carrots that give the medley a bit of a crunch.
