The timeout.com privacy promise
Timeout.com is absolutely committed to protecting your privacy. (1) Individual user details will not be passed on without prior consent; (2) Only aggregate statistics about the number of users and their traffic patterns will be given to advertisers. However, if timeout.com changes hands, timeout.com reserves the right to transfer all information collected through timeout.com to the new owner.
Timeout.com does not require you to provide any personal information in order to access timeout.com. However, if a you choose to fill out any reader surveys, enter a competition, apply for an offer or make a purchase from our online shop, you will be asked to supply some information about yourself, including your name, address, phone number and e-mail address. By entering a competition or applying for an offer you give permission for timeout.com to pass your details to any third party sponsor of the competition / offer so they may contact you in the event that you win the competition or qualify for the offer. If you do not win the competition / qualify for the offer your details will not be passed on without your explicit permission.
Timeout.com tracks the number of users to timeout.com, the pages visited and the length of visit. In addition, timeout.com collects information from users who click on advertisements to measure interest and inform advertisers as to how many users have seen or clicked on their ads. Timeout.com also uses demographic and preference information to allow advertising banners on timeout.com to be targeted, in the aggregate, to the users for whom they are most pertinent.
Timeout.com collects these kinds of aggregate user information for two main reasons: (1) To help to continually improve the service offered. (2) To sell sponsorships on timeout.com to advertisers. Timeout.com may disclose this information to advertisers. NB: advertisers do not have influence over the editorial content or reviews that appear on timeout.com.
My Time Out
The interactions available to you as part of 'My Time Out' are designed to offer a personalised content experience from timeout.com. Timeout.com asks you to share your data with timeout.com to enable the creation of that personalised content. This includes relevant content and offers, some of which will be supplied by third parties. Timeout.com will not pass on your individual user details to third parties without asking for explicit permission.
My Time Out and Facebook
When joining ‘My Time Out’ you will be asked to login using your Facebook account. The My Time Out application asks Facebook for permission to access selected Facebook data, which enables the service to work – for example your Friends list. This data is stored by timeout.com against your ‘My Time Out’ profile. You can choose what personal information is displayed on timeout.com in the Account Settings page. When you login to ‘My Time Out’ using Facebook the application will check for any changes and update your My Time Out profile accordingly and stored by timeout.com. Additionally if you amend details in the ‘About You’ section of ‘My Time Out’ this data will be retained as the master copy of your data. If you choose to deactivate your My Time Out account all your data is deleted. Your Facebook account will be unaffected.

When you give timeout.com your e-mail address, you are asked to let timeout.com know how it can be used. You may 'opt in' to receive regular e-mail newsletters that contain information timeout.com believe to be of value to you, specifically events, special discounts and offers selected by the Time Out marketing department. Data will not be passed on to third parties. All emails will contain a link to opt out of further communications from timeout.com If you make a purchase via timeout.com the assumption may be made that you will be interested in similar products and you may receive emails with information about these products.
