Portrait Suites review

Opened in 2006, Portrait Suites is the latest in a growing portfolio of luxury boutique hotels owned by fashion designer Salvatore Ferragamo. Though black and white photos and memorabilia from the designer's archives decorate the hallways, the rooms themselves carry little clue of the hotel's fashion pedigree (though eagle-eyed Ferragamo fans might spot the designer's signature gancino emblem on the curtains). A somewhat predictable black-and-slate colour scheme is offset with touches of pink and lime, with spacious marble bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes and - ta dah! - a glamorous kitchenette, with all mod cons (though it's hard to imagine the average guest here making use of the dishwasher). Breakfast is served in the rooms or outside on the spectacular terrace; underfloor heating helps keep fashionistas' feet toasty in winter.
