This superbly - though boringly - regular 18th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal was bought in 2005 from the Italian car maker Fiat by French billionaire businessman François-Henri Pinault. Pinault brought in Japanese superstar-architect Tadao Ando for an expensive overhaul, which increased the exhibition space by 2,000sq m (21,000sq ft). The palazzo's past blockbuster shows have varied from contemporary art to exhibitions on ancient civilisations.
