The best Memorial Day weekend events in Chicago for 2024

During the summer, one of the best aerial displays you'll find in Chicago originates from Navy Pier. The Chicago attraction hosts twice-weekly fireworks shows (on Wednesdays and Saturdays) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, with stunning views available from across the pier's public spaces. Of course, you can also take in the show from nearby beaches or while cruising along the Lakefront Trail.

Closed since 2022, North Avenue Beach restaurant and bar Castaways reopens Memorial Day Weekend after undergoing a massive $3 million renovation. The 22,000-square-foot, two-level space will now feature revamped dining decks, bar areas, patio space, multiple cabanas available for rent and private events, and an area reserved for patrons 21 years and older.

This small-yet-comprehensive military library and museum is offering free admission on Saturday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day. Visit to check out The War of 1812: Countering Peril on the High Seas and at Home, an exhibit chronicling the conflict between the U.S. and the U.K.
