July Exhibition / Tom Squires says
Adelaide based artist Tom Squires is currently occupying the main gallery of Format Systems, using the space as a studio, to produce a work on a vast canvas truck tarpaulain, 9 x 6 metres.

The resulting exhibition will open July 6, currently under the working title of:

keats's backbone / with tufts of / cambodian grass / amongst its joints

The work signals Squires' return to painting after a 14-year hiatus, to be composed with oil stick, paints, collaged paper and found materials. The painting will take as its subject matter the process of composing and editing a poem.

As the poem is composed, the painting is composed. As the painting is composed, the poem is composed – to be read and "read" from and to any point, without end, in whatever order the eye moves and is moved.
