Our Life In Stasis looks back at the world through a cinematic structure developed by 20th C. Japanese filmmaker, Yasujiro Ozu. In a seemingly contradictory fashion his films, made in the developing style of American Hollywood, have come to be seen as quintessentially Japanese; intersecting storied discourse with attentive and detailed still life scenes. This exhibition by upcoming JamFactory associate Jordan Gower interprets Ozu-san’s cinematography as a means to dwell on the ways we detach from and integrate within the world. Gower then looks to identify meaningful process in the difference and sameness of objects and culture.
