The Introduction to Infectious Diseases Clinical Seminar will provide pharmacists with basic skills required to optimise the use of antimicrobials and manage patients with infectious diseases.

Learning Objectives:
■ Describe principles of infectious diseases, the principles and key areas of antimicrobial stewardship, the role of microbiology and to interpret typical microbiology laboratory reports
■ Describe pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of antimicrobials and the clinical application of PK/PD parameters to optimise the efficacy of antimicrobial agents
■ Describe which antimicrobials require therapeutic drug monitoring and to interpret antimicrobial serum concentrations with respect to infectious disease states
■ Identify the commonly encountered chest infections in the hospital and their optimal antimicrobial management
■ Identify common gram-positive, gram-negative and fungal pathogens and to discuss the rationale behind antimicrobial therapy associated with various infections via case studies

This activity has been accredited for 7.7 hours of Group-1 CPD (or 7.7 CPD credits) plus 4 hours of Group-2 (or 8 CPD credits) – total of 15.7 credits, suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan.
