The stage is set, the milkshakes are spiked and Perth's new late-night music diner is ready to rock
Perth music lovers and Tarantino fans, say hello to Jack Rabbit Slim’s – the brand spankin’ new music venue/bar/small eats haven that has just set up digs on Aberdeen Street near Russell Square. These enterprising newbies have come along to help fill the void left by the Bakery and Deville’s, and they've got big shoes to fill.
Try your hand at the retro arcade game machines dotted throughout the diner, or head straight back to the band room to see who's on Perth’s newest stage for live music acts. JR Slim’s is promising to present a cavalcade of local and international artists in its opening months, ranging from rollickin’ rock and indie to hip hop and electronic.
If you’re keen for a bite to eat with your tunes, there’s a 1950s diner (well, drunken snack station) decked out with welcoming booths just made for sittin' back with alcoholic milkshakes and some seriously fancy Slim’s fries. Six shake flavours are on offer, from standard favourites to salted caramel and peanut butter, and bowls of fries come with various toppings including spicy chipotle.
With no lockout on this late-night music diner, you can get your groove on every Friday and Saturday night from 9pm to 5am.
Live – with a side of fries
Jack Rabbit Slim’s is a live music venue, bespoke bar, lounge, and late night diner rolled into one. Slim’s is the latest (and greatest!) offering from Metric, the imaginative creative events collective behind music festivals Wonderland, Castaway, and CIRCO, as well as regular club nights Mondo, Frayed, Cheek, Father, LowPitch and more, and the venue is fast becoming the ultimate hangout for Perth's music and party loving, inner-city set. Open until 5am every Friday and Saturday, it’s the perfect place to meet with mates, share a rum ‘n’ chocolate shake and a bowl of chilli fries, before heading over to the dancefloor, cheap beer in hand, to shake it off as the Slims Jukebox DJs spin your fave indie throwbacks until the wee hours.
THE DINER & GAMES ROOM
Slims’ awesome, 1950s-style diner incorporates fire engine red leather booths and tables and neon-lit signage, and serves up flavoured alcoholic milkshakes and a variety of fries ’n’ sauce combos until 5am. Just next door to the diner sits a retro arcade game room – race your buddies at Daytona and make the loser buy everyone a round of Slim’s signature flavoured tequila shots!
THE STAGE & DANCEFLOOR
Slims boasts a full stage set-up, state-of-the-art soundsystem, and exciting lighting, with a huge wooden dancefloor and multiple vantage points of the stage – wherever you’re standing at the bar, you can see the music. Every Saturday is bands galore at JR Slims, with local talent and interstate touring acts hitting the stage for electrifying live performances. Already, Aus music faves The Delta Riggs, ASTA and Hey Geronimo have brought record crowds through the doors, all stamping for encores.
THE SECOND STOREY LOUNGE
Worn your limbs out dancing but don’t want to miss a thing? Follow the incredible black-and-white Sean Morris wall mural upstairs, where you can take a break on one of the many couches in Slim’s cosy, vintage-style lounge area - grab a drink from the upstairs bar and enjoy a birds eye’ view of the bands – and the chance to brush shoulders with big acts as they walk off stage!
Jack Rabbit Slim’s is now open every Friday and Saturday night, 9pm – 5am. No lockouts.

I loved this place. The bartenders were great and so were the cocktails. There was a long line to get in but at same time I really didn't take very long for us to get inside the nightclub. I'd be sure to check for tickets next time
