Amplifier Capitol says
Amplifier in turning the ripe old age of 16, making it old enough to get its learners permits but still not old enough to legally drink – oh the irony! In the spirit on My Super Sweet 16 a party of epic proportions is set to take place on Friday 4 December with a This Is Your Life style revolving door of past and current characters stopping by to share in the celebrations and maybe reminisce a little.

Headlining will be the legendary Meanies who will be launching their brand new LP ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’. Starting as four mates that loved beer and punk rock came together in 1989 and somehow landed on a formula of snotty power-pop that would see them go on to tour the world, supporting the likes of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, The Beastie Boys, The Lemonheads, Bad Brains and Fugazi. Having one of the most storied history in the chronicles of Australian rock it seems only right that their and Amplifier’s fates collide on this auspicious night.

Joining the line up will be local luminaries Sugar Army, Umpire, Chainsaw Hookers, Leeches and The Ghost Hotel who between them and their various other incarnations (see Wednesday Society, Adam Said Galore, Screwtop Detonators, Capital City, Team Jedi, Red Jezebel, et al) have spend as much time holding up the bar as trading the boards.

Last but not least, what would Amplifier be without the many DJs that have kept the venue humming until the early morning week after week. Past and present favorites Luscious Leah, Brett Rowe, melnkel, Rinnaz, Fang, Eddie Electric, Deejay K La and Jamie Mac will join forces playing their favorite dance floor anthems.

If you have been to the venue at all over the last 16 years, or even if it is your first time the venue, Amplifier’s Not So Sweet 16th Birthday promises to be a part that won’t be rivaled for a while to come.
