Spectrum Project Space says
Jane Whelan is the recipient of the 2016 Spectrum Project Space Artist in Residence. This annual program allows an artist one month’s access to Spectrum Project Space at ECU’s Mount Lawley Campus as a working studio, with the aim of exhibiting their new works in the gallery at the end of the residency. This program is in it's third year.

Jane Whelan’s residency will focus on further development of her contemplative landscape drawing approach as part of her Masters Research. Inspired by her travels in China and in particular the traditional gardens of Suzhou, Whelan engages with landscape as a dialogue with space and time.

At the conclusion of Whelan’s residency she will open an exhibition at Spectrum Project Space titled, Drawing Breath.

This exhibition will be a part of the FRINGE WORLD festival 2016. The subject of Whelan’s drawings refer both to the traditional gardens of Suzhou and to her local environment in Western Australia.
