THE ROCK STAR AND THE MONK

Historic concert of legendary Spanish rock star ROSENDO Mercado in Perth to commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of ROSENDO Salvado, the Spanish monk that founded the Benedictine abbey of New Norcia in Western Australia in 1846.

IN SEARCH OF ROSENDO

Rosendo Salvado (1814-1900) was a Spanish monk, missionary and bishop of Perth and accomplished musician who embarked on a mission to create an almost experimental utopic Benedictine community for the aborigines in Western Australia.

WHO IS ROSENDO MERCADO?

This question makes sense only outside Spain. Rosendo Mercado (Madrid, 1954) is one of very few rock musicians with a street named after them (like AC/DC in Melbourne) since 2000. He is the best exponent of so called urban rock in Spain. He founded some of the most influential rock bands of the 70’s and 80’s like Ñu and Leño and he then continued a successful solo career until today, and some of the songs of that period have become the soundtrack of the lives of many Spaniards of his generation and younger generations.

WHAT DOES HE SOUND LIKE?

He might remind you of Rory Gallagher and other bands such as Jethro Tull, Canned Heat, Cream, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but in Spanish.
