Teacher Profile

Belinda Tibay completed studies in 1991 with a Diploma in Art Education at the University of Northern Rivers Lismore. Also studied from 1987 to 1990 completing a Bachelor of Art (Contemporary Visual Art) at the University of Northern Rivers Lismore NSW.

I commenced work from 1992 and continue to work in the field of teaching visual arts to high school, primary school, special needs and Youth at Risk. Have worked in Schools, Art Galleries and Youth Projects. During this time have set up Arts programs at four different schools in Western Australia. Currently a practicing artist now son has grown up.

Teaching Philosophy has developed from a fascination in Art process and how an artwork is put together, leading to an interest in learning new processes. Am very passionate about the Arts and enjoy teaching art classes where I have the opportunity to develop and extend secondary and primary school age student’s responses to their art learning journey, including exploring logical and intuitive thinking that communicates each student’s own ideas resulting in individual art works. I do this by developing a relationship with each student, this leads to understanding of how they learn, think and what they enjoy doing. I also model Art language, give different solutions for one idea and verbally critic an Art work for them before asking for their response during group discussions. I encourage a positive learning environment that uses the basis of Tribes philosophy. Where each child is supported and encouraged to develop at their own pace and express their ideas without prejudice. Each child learns about their own strengths and collaboration with others. I believe building rapport with a student is fundamental as part of the teaching and learning journey.
