What Rosie Batty has gone through is every mother’s worst nightmare – and it’s this tragedy that’s made her a household name. On a hot afternoon in February 2014, Rosie’s 11-year-old son Luke was killed by his father in the most brutal, public attack. Rosie, raw with grief, came out of her front gate to address the media, saying, “I want to tell everybody that family violence happens to everybody. No matter how nice your house is, how intelligent you are. It can happen to anyone, and everyone.”

In that moment, just hours after her son’s life was taken, Rosie gave a voice to the thousands of victims of domestic violence who had until then remained unheard. Rosie’s ability to articulate the train of events that had led to this tragedy has demonstrated the wider implications of her experience. She showed that the system isn’t working to ensure the safety of those who find themselves in these circumstances; that family violence can happen anywhere.

Rosie has become a leader in the crusade against domestic violence in this country and has turned her personal tragedy into a fight to help others. Join us for breakfast to hear Rosie tell her story of resilience and courage, as we shine a light on an issue that demands Australia’s attention.
