Spring says
Welcome to the third and final event in our intensive, three week poetathalon. We slammed and we celebrated our past and now, we want to take what we learned from both those events and keep moving forward. To that end, Spoken Word Perth presents a night of bountiful and energy change which we’ll be calling SPRING.

SPRING is all about change: the flowers are budding, the leaves are waking up and all the sheep are having sheep babies (Full Disclosure: I am British and unsure if that’s how spring works in Australia, or if everything just catches fire until winter comes around again). It’s also a time of anticipation; excitement; fertility and we want you to bring all of that to the mic: we want to talk about change and have fun doing it.

Bring out your season poems. Bring out the sunshine. Bring out the bad times and let them thaw. If you’re going to look back, tell us how far you’ve come. Tell us about your younger self and where they are now. Tell us about how you bounced back or took a leap of faith. Tell us about the people and the events that came out of nowhere and changed everything. Tell us something we’re not expecting. Tell us. Tell us!

Join us on WEDS 17th AUGUST for an OPEN MIC that will be bursting with talent. TEN SPOTS AVAILABLE, five minutes each. Five will be available on our Facebook an hour before the event and five at the venue itself. Spots are first-come, first-serve and fill up fast, so make sure to be on time if you want to secure one.

In the spirit of SPRING and new beginnings, we’re also taking this opportunity to encourage first-time readers and other newcomers to take to the mic, so please bear this in mind if you’re a regular reader.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Speaking of talent and bursting, this week we have two highly talented feature poets keen to get their words out. Up-and-coming human being, CHASE HOUGHTON and local legend/possible alien, SPLODGE will both be performing alongside our open mic’ers. Expect to feel like a teenager again, and then to feel like a teenager who grew up during punk. Expect to think ‘I should start a journal’ and then ‘I should write on the walls more’. Expect to laugh a little and cry a little and clap a lot.

MC/Human Fruit, JESSIE APPLEYARD will also be returning to introduce performers, exchange witty banter for applause and jump around, jump around, jump up, jump up and get down.

For now, you can keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram (@spokenwordperth) for more from our features in the lead up to
the event, but, until then, we hope to see you.
Doors at 19:00
Performance starts 19:30
