SUPPORT STRUCTURE is an exhibition of new works by Liam Colgan, Emma Schrader and Grace Herbert. The show examines their shared interest in built environments and considers the ways these spaces can influence the human subject.

Motivated by three distinct spaces, the gallery, bedroom and construction site, SUPPORT STRUCTURE highlights the unseen mechanisms of our built world. Through multi-media installations and sculpture respectively, Colgan questions the extent an individual has autonomy, to determine ones self, against their environment, while Schrader considers how the human body can harmonize and share an experience with the space it occupies. Herbert’s photographic installation seeks to investigate the transient nature of built spaces, considering their fluctuation between fragility and permanence. With these diverse perspectives SUPPORT STRUCTURE aims to provide an insight into, and exploration of, the ways in which architecture and embodiment are approached in contemporary art practice.

This project has been funded by the Western Australian Government through the Department of Culture and The Arts. This project was also assisted by The Fremantle Arts Centre the AiR program.
