Performed by: Decibel

Decibel have been working with two of the most important living French composers in Europe, commissioning new works from Lionel Marchetti and Eliane Radigue. The concert features OCCAM OCEAN HEXA II, co signed by Eliane Radige and Carol Robinson, the first work by Radigue for an Australian ensemble, as well as new works from Lionel Marchetti for instruments and concrete sounds.

Music concrete is a significant new music movement that began as a response to the compositional possibilities of recorded sound in the early twentieth century. It has since continued into directions that combine speaker music with live performance and acoustic instruments. Marchetti is one of the leaders in the field, and his work with Decibel explores the potential of the medium beyond the 'sound object' and into live performance. Radigue, who was involved in the early music concrete experiments in France, now creates only acoustic works, that build on the complexity of electronic music, redefining the nature of acoustic music in the process.
