For years, Midwestern surfers (yes, they exist) have trekked to Sheboygan, Wisconsin to catch waves along a five-mile stretch of Lake Michigan. Now, a native Chicagoan is trying to bring surfing to Montrose Beach, though you won't be hanging ten in the lake. Instead, K.C. Hoos wants to install a SurfStream wave machine by the beach, allowing beginners and experts to ride on adjustable waves ranging from 1 foot to 6 feet in height. In order to make the surf park (which includes a cafe, patio seating and a gift shop) a reality, Hoos is turning to Kickstarter to raise $101,000. Don't start waxing your board just yet—thus far, the Chicago Surf campaign has only raised $5,686.
