Ever since the opening of the 606 was delayed last fall, we've been told that the 2.7 mile elevated trail would open in June. Today, officials announced an official opening date: June 6 (or 6/06—how clever).

Opening weekend festivities will commence at 8am with ribbon cuttings at each of the trail's access ramps, making way for trail-top processions throughout the day. Opening day will also be celebrated with a street festival—beginning at 10am—on Humboldt Boulevard, between Wabansia and Cortland, featuring a music stage, a SummerDance event, local food vendors and hands-on activities. The celebration will conclude on June 7 with a pancake breakfast at the Ridgeway Trailhead, 1821 N Ridgeway Avenue, between 10am and 1pm.

Want an early look at the 606? You can gaze down on it from the Blue Line or pony up some cash and attend the Above the Rails Inaugural Gala on June 5, where guests will be able to enjoy cocktails, dinner and a walk on the newly-completed trail.
