We're closer than ever to the opening of Maggie Daley Park, the northern portion of Grant Park that lies directly to the east of Millennium Park. When the entire park opens in 2015, it will boast climbing walls, playground equipment, a dedicated concession stand and some great views of Lake Michigan. Visitors will be able to enjoy one of the park's attractions a little bit later this year: the ice skating ribbon. The ice-covered path will form a circuit on the north end of the new park, allowing skaters to enjoy the city's skyline while sliding around the course. The ice skating ribbon will be subject to the Chicago Park District's outdoor rink admission fee, though the price has not yet been determined.

Over the past two years, crews have been hard at work on the $60 million park, which rests atop the East Monroe Street parking garage. Planners had to take the structure below the site into consideration, leading to the use of lightweight polystyrene geofoam to create the park's rolling hills. An infographic created by Rig Source Inc. demonstrates how the park has been transformed. We're just excited about being able to use the winding BP Bridge once again.
