    Vampire Weekend

    Sundays April 14 and 21

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 2008, 2010

Beloved world-pop preppies Vampire Weekend have no interest in sucking your blood—though we know a few festival-goers who would probably jump at that chance. Pop your collar and channel that chick on the (unauthorized) cover of Contra—the band's addictive second album—to fully enjoy the the restless rockers' Sunday sets.

  3. Yeah Yeah Yeahs

    Fridays April 12 and 19

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 2006, 2009

Powder keg frontwoman Karen O and New York's favorite art-punk alt-poppers are prepping the April release of Mosquito, their first formal LP since 2009's It's Blitz! Amongst their hefty stable of hits, expect to hear a few new ones, including Mosquito's gospel-tinged first single, "Sacrilege." Yeah Yeah Yeahs are never less than spectacular live, so stake out your spot near the stage for the band's third appearance at Coachella.

    Action Bronson

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

This bearded, Queens-raised rapper—and former gourmet chef, perhaps evident by his overbearing size—was featured on Wu-Tang's 2011 album Legendary Weapons and has been likened to Ghostface Killah. Sometimes frantic, his freestyle is lots of shit talk and lots of awesome, and we expect a good live set.

  5. Grizzly Bear

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 2007, 2010

Four years after Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood named Grizzly Bear his favorite band, and three years after the group became everyone's favorite band with the release of harmony-laden indie-pop gem Veckatimest, local indie-rock-faves-made-good Grizzly Bear play this festival gig in support of their newish LP, Shields.

  6. Wu-Tang Clan

    Sundays April 14 and 21

    Origin: Staten Island, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

Critically and commercially acclaimed, this impossibly influential Staten Island hip-hop collective first emerged from the underground in 1993. What with solo albums and live dates from members GZA, Raekwon and Method Man, there's been a lot of peripheral and fractured Wu activity in recent years, so to have the entire original crew (save for the late Ol' Dirty Bastard, whose son Young Dirty Bastard is sometimes a special guest) back on stage is a treat indeed. Expect much muthafuckin' noise when they drop bombs like "C.R.E.A.M." and "Protect Ya Neck."

    Tanlines

    Sundays April 14 and 21

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

At first listen, Mixed Emotions, the debut full-length from Tanlines, sounds like a straightforwardly good-time album: honest pop with swelling synths and giddy arrangements. But as you delve deeper, dark undercurrents emerge and wonderfully anthemic choruses begin to convey lostness and uncertainty. Likewise, the band members engage in multiple identities: Brooklyn indie entertainers who make lighthearted synth-rock, and complex, introspective artists who disclose further depth with each album spin.

  8. CANCELED: Lou Reed has canceled both his Coachella sets, as well as several other West coast dates, citing "unavoidable complications." Boo, Lou.

    Fridays April 12 and 19

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

Okay, so we won't get to see the Rolling Stones this April, as speculated, but Lou Reed is quite the consolation prize. Expect all the faves—and plenty of less-well-known new tracks too—from the grumpy Velvet Underground hero. Hope to hear "Kill Your Sons," about Reed's own experience with electroconvulsive therapy meant to "cure" his bisexuality.

    Baauer

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

Ah, Baauer. It's not your fault, man. You didn't know what you were unleashing when you released "Harlem Shake" last year. You didn't know that it would eventually become part of a ridiculous, annoying meme that pissed off the whole of Harlem, let alone the half of the planet that didn't upload footage of themselves dancing to it on YouTube. But the LuckyMe-signed producer is far more than just "Harlem Shake" in a baseball cap. He's got enough chopped-up trapped-down hip-hop chops to hold his own.

  10. Yeasayer

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 2010

Arty local indie faves Yeasayer support their latest, Fragrant World, during Saturday sets at this outdoor bash. Just don't expect a set of anthemic pop songs. Their latest album release skews toward dark, R&B-tinged—and compulsively listenable—material, although we're sure they'll throw in some poppy, sing-along hits like "Ambling Alp."

  11. Theophilus London

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

Theophilus London raps with smoldering street smarts, mixing electro beats and synths with a pinch of ’80s gloom pop. Over the past two years he's delivered an excellent debut LP, contributed to Dave Sitek’s Maximum Balloon project, and worked with Solange Knowles and Dev Hynes on the dreamy single “Flying Overseas.”

  12. DIIV

    Sundays April 14 and 21

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

Let’s hear it for reverb. Let’s hear it for the sound of long summer nights, only half-remembered, that were probably the best times of your life. Let’s hear it for Polaroids and girlfriends, flowers and drugs, cassettes and sunsets. In other words, let’s hear it for DIIV. The band is the project of Zachary Cole Smith, a guitarist with the excellent dream-pop group Beach Fossils. The guitar lines have barely skipped a beat between the two bands, with Cole Smith picking out exquisite, ear-pleasing melodies on his six string like floating seeds on the summer breeze. Lyrics are used sparingly, and when they are, they’re simple, murmur-along refrains. Their songs, you could argue, all sound kind of the same. But they also all sound kind of great—guitar hooks spinning round and round in your mind, forever, forever, forever, forever...

    Moby

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 1999

Moby (born Richard Melville Hall) is most well known for his sample-based electronic music, though he's also a great photographer and outspoken vegan and animal rights activist. Hear his best known songs, off 1999's Play and 2002's 18, as well as new tracks and perhaps a factory farm tirade or two.

  14. El-P

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 2003, 2007

Jaime Meline—a.k.a. El-P, El Producto or Lazerface—the founder of splendid alt hip-hop label Definitive Jux and one third of the peerless Company Flow, made a surprise return last year with his new album, Cancer 4 Cure. Expect darkly menacing, thrillingly textured beatscapes and sharp rhymes.

    Guards

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

You know Guards frontman Richie Follin, even if you’ve never heard of the guy. He’s the singer-songwriter behind the Willowz, a garage-punk act that director Michel Gondry tapped for the soundtracks of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep. Guards, which includes keyboardist Kaylie Church and Willowz drummer Loren Humphrey, has already landed support slots on tours with indie heavyweights like the Joy Formidable and Menomena, all before their debut full-length was even released. The trio has plenty of connections, apparently, and its indie-pop aesthetic is on the nose. That keen sense of culture carries over to the band’s highly stylized songs, which run the gamut from guitar-driven anthems to retro-pop cool.

  16. Pusha T

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

This nimble-tongued Bronx-based MC (don't ever call him Terrence Thornton, his birth name) is a favorite of superproducers from the Neptunes to Kanye West, and if you've got any love for novelistic crack-slinging tales worthy of a Wire side plot, then Pusha's got plenty to offer to you, too.

  17. Kill the Noise

    Saturdays April 13 and 20

    Origin: Rochester, NY
    Previously played Coachella: 2009

Jake Stanczak, better known as Kill the Noise (or sometimes Ewun), is a drum ’n' bass, dubstep, electro and house producer from Rochester, New York. He's worked with the likes of Skrillex and Dillon Francis, and co-owns the Slow Roast Records label alongside DJ Craze.

  18. Ladies Night

    Sundays April 14 and 21

    Origin: New York, NY
    Previously played Coachella: First-timer

Producer Liv Spencer and musician Geoff Renaud combined their talents in late 2012 with breakout DJ sets across downtown NYC . Their performance on SS Coachella's maiden voyage cemented their reputation as purveyors of raucous quality dancefloor vibes, which you can experience for yourself during their Sunday sets.
