For parents, the beginning of summer may elicit feelings of pure joy—or complete panic, depending on whether or not you’ve already registered your kids for summer camp. Luckily, many of our favorite summer camps are procrastinator-friendly, and are still open for enrollment. Available sessions at each camp are subject to change, so call or email specific camps for the most up-to-date information. Read on for great last-minute ideas for camp for NYC kids.

Big Apple Day Program

Children with emotional, developmental and learning disabilities can work toward personal goals in problem solving, academic performance, anger management, self-esteem and peer relationships, as well as in recreational sports. Highly trained staff provide a safe, fun environment with a mix of structured and unstructured activities. Camp runs July 1–Aug 9, 9am–4:45pm. Six-week session $7,200. Ages 7 to 11.

Camp Apple Seeds

At this popular play space's summer sessions, children are exposed to subjects such as cooking, science, construction and crafts through a number of interactive activities. Each day starts with playtime in the center's gym and ends with an art project, so tykes get a chance to exercise both their minds and bodies. Camp Frolic

Each week, campers work on crafts, cooking, science, music and other activities centered around a different theme. During Pop Idol Week, tots take on the persona of their favorite pop star in a talent show; on Rockin’ in the USA Week, kids make red, white and blue craft projects and rock out at a Bruce Springsteen dance party. New for this year is British Invasion Week, in which little ones design Yellow Submarine place mats and join in a Beatles sing-along with Tim Kubart of the Little Rock-its by Frolic! Camp runs June 24–Aug 30, Mon–Fri 9am–noon. One-day session $80 (for two- and three-day options) or $75 (for five-day options). Ages 3 to 5.

Circus Camp @ SLAM

Kids learn to fly through the air with the greatest of ease on the trapeze at this Williamsburg 
camp. They also get to sample other circus favorites; during the sessions, campers bounce on the trampoline, try out tumbling, walk the tightrope and study Elizabeth Streb’s Pop Action technique. On Fridays they show off their new skills to family. The big top can even accommodate preschoolers: Children ages 3 to 5 learn basic tumbling in the Little Kid Action Camp. Camp (ages 6 to 12) runs July 8–Aug 2, Mon–Fri 9:30am–4:30pm. One-week session $625. Little Kid Action camp (ages 3 to 5)

Dwight Summer Day Camp

The new eight-week program at this international learning institution—led by Mike Bailey, formerly of Asphalt Green—boasts an indoor pool, a karate dojo and an open-air roof deck. In a typical day, kids may juggle in a circus-arts class, then compose songs in a music session. Games of GaGa are also on deck, and campers frequently venture off campus for trips. Camp runs June 27–
Aug 16, Mon–Fri 8:30am–4:30pm. $3,700–$5,275 depending on length of session. Ages 4 to 13.

Marymount Drama Camp

Teaching artists show youngsters the ropes through acting, singing, dance and set-design workshops. They also visit the Met and take a field trip to see a Broadway musical. Participants perform a full musical at the end of the summer. Camp runs June 24–July 26, Mon–Fri 9am–3pm. Kids with a passion for science work in Marymount’s state-of-the-art labs exploring subjects like robotics, chemistry, video game design, animation and engineering. A professional teaching staff leads youngsters in hands-on experiments, research and field studies. Trips to local science museums will supplement what campers learn in class. Oasis Summer Day Camp

This mega camp gives parents four Big Apple locations to choose from, and gives children days filled with swimming lessons, athletics, fine and performing arts, nature exploration and field trips. Campers embark on at least two field trips a summer. (In the past they’ve check out the Bronx Zoo, the New York Hall of Science and the American Museum of Natural History.) The Painted Pot Camp

Has your little one graduated from Play-Doh? If so, send her to this workshop, where she will paint pottery, learn how to make mosaics and pick up clay-sculpting basics. Super Soccer Stars Drop-In Classes

Campers kick their way through activities like "soccer tennis," partner drills and mini tournaments. Programs also include craft projects and soccer skills development. Advanced players will want to check out the SSS Premier Advanced camp on Randall's Island. TADA! Musical Theater Camp

Two professional teaching artists direct campers as they put together a mini musical—in just five days. Taro's Origami Summer Camp

Don’t worry if your child doesn’t even know the meaning of the word origami—after five days at this camp she’ll be well-versed in it, thanks to the step-by-step lessons provided by Taro’s instructors. Participants start the week by learning the history of origami and fold a few simple paper sculptures. In the next two days they build on these skills and create their own models to decorate and take home. On the fourth day, the class works together to craft a complex piece of art. Camp runs July 9–Aug 23, Tue–Fri 1–3pm. One-week session $200. Ages 5 and up.

Taste Buds Camp

Each session of this cooking camp has a different theme: Kids can work with chocolate, make baked goods, or create classic NYC dishes and specialties from around the world. Writopia Camp

Youngsters expand their imaginations under the guidance of professional writers in this nonprofit organization’s summer programs. Kids work with a published author to create a piece of fiction, a memoir or a poem, or opt for the Playwriting and Performance session, where they spend time with a playwright, composing an original play.
