Forget Fright- It's Sight Night!

Think witches and ghouls are scary? The fact that thousands of children with visual impairments are forced to live without glasses may one up these creatures of the night.  Looking on the bright side, while there are no surefire remedies to rid the world of devilish mythical beings, there is something you and your kids can do to improve a deprived child’s vision.

Sight Night, sponsored by the Give the Gift of Sight organization, is a collaboration between Luxottica Retail Associates, Lions Club volunteers and kids who band together to collect, repair, and donate eye wear to people who could potentially see the world a whole lot clearer.

Kids play a vital role in this process by scrounging up old eyeglasses around the house and asking friends and family if they have any recyclable eye wear. If your entire family boasts 20-20 vision, kids can incorporate the hunt for glasses into their yearly trick-or-treating adventure. Trick or treat…or old eyeglasses, please!

All donated glasses will be cleaned and distributed to those in need. These glasses will help children who cannot see the blackboard in class or have a hard time navigating their blurry trick or treating route.

Eye wear is also collected year-round in stores such as LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Sunglass Hut, Sears Optical, Target Optical and BJ’s Optical.

This Halloween season, have your little candy-hungry demons give back with all of the energy they’re receiving from excess sugar. Visit  givethegiftofsight.org for more details on how to help the organization reach their goal of assisting seven million people worldwide by 2008.
