Alex Wong might not be a household name—yet—but you might very well have encountered this Brooklyn singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist's work before. He's contributed to efforts by arty local popsters like Vienna Teng, Ari Hest, and Elizabeth and the Catapult, not to mention the Paper Raincoat, his duo with Amber Rubarth. Wong's new project, A City on a Lake, has just issued its self-titled debut, which features a guest appearance by Mexican singer, songwriter and actor Ximena Sariñana (a Live at TONY veteran). Wong and Sariñana play together on Thursday, August 23 at 10pm at Rockwood Music Hall—and little did we know when we invited them to play Live at TONY that this would be Wong's final show as a Brooklynite; he's off to seek his fortune in California. You can say goodbye at Rockwood, but catch them here first, playing two songs from the new CD, "Oceanside" and "Are You Listening."
