From NYC concerts at legendary venues such as the Apollo Theater and Radio City Music Hall to music festivals in the sweltering California desert, Time Out logged an unprecedented number of hours soaking up the country's best live music in 2013. Needless to say, we loved every minute of it. The elder statesmen of the American music festival scene—Coachella and Newport Folk Festival among them—delivered their reliable blend of hype-worthy bands and colorful characters. Meanwhile, young upstart fests like Firefly Music Festival and Jay-Z's Made in America Festival took their game to the next level.

Chicago continued to cement its status as one of the premier urban locales for hosting music fests—with Lollapalooza, Pitchfork Music Festival, Spring Awakening, Riot Fest and more in the mix, Chicagoans had themselves quite a summer. Unfortunately, Mother Nature wiped out NYC's hopes of being a contender—see Governors Ball, day one.

Along the way, we happily snapped away as our favorite artists delighted the masses. Here are our best concert and festival photos from a wild and wacky, always rockin' 2013.
