Théâtre de la Photographie et de l'Image review Rate it

Life through a lens is displayed in all its forms at this slickly appointed photography gallery. Journalism, fashion, art and experimental photography all get their share of wall space, digital screen space and, in the case of the salon Gérardpierre (which features some splendid, grotesquely enlarged portraiture), head space. The gloriously ornate architraves and mouldings contrast with the otherwise spartan white decor and the clean, utilitarian presentation of the pictures. Temporary exhibitions are usually well chosen, always showcasing new talent in interesting groupings (as, for example, the recent 'Enfants de Cartier' exhibition of contemporary Canadian photography, including works by the Sanchez brothers). Most famous of all, though, is the annual 'Septembre de la Photo' exhibition, which usually runs right through to November and spills over into some of the city's other museums and galleries.
