The Aussies would like to celebrate our 50th national birthday with us and they're doing it the way they know best: with a barbecue – 50 free ones, to be exact. 50 BBQs on June 28 is part of the Australian High Commission’s SG50 celebrations to mark 50 years of friendship with Singapore. Dig into 10,000 beef and lamb steaks – all claimed by organisers to be halal butchered – served by 500 Australian volunteers. You could do it the Aussie way too, of course, and bring your own food to share. Besides good food, there's also a night of entertainment promised, including a fire-eater at one Community Club.

The 50 BBQs event is the culmination of Australia's 50 Bridges arts and community programme to celebrate SG50. You can also take part in the 50 Bridges photo contest to capture the Australian-Singaporean relationship in the most creative way, and stand to win a pair of return business class tickets to Melbourne.

50 BBQs will be held at various venues all over Singapore, including Toa Payoh Central, Haji Lane and Teck Whye Garden. For the full list of locations, check out Australia in Singapore's website, and for more details on each BBQ event, stalk the local event organisers (Community Clubs, Residents' Committee etc), or just head down whenever you think it's dinner time.
