The youngest food court of the BreadTalk franchise is this 1960s beer garden in the car park of St James Power Station. Nineteen food operators – including esteemed ngoh hiang stall Zhong Zhong Fine Spices and former Lau Pa Sat stronghold Satay Power – have set up shop next to possibly the first fully stocked food-court bar (‘Street Bar’) that also hawks the foam-topped Singapore Sling. Sway to live music played by artists from the St James troupe under hanging bird cages and tarpaulin tops: it’s a bloc party.
