Most people aren’t looking for exceedingly high quality when they buy supermarket wine. Still, it doesn’t hurt. The People’s Choice Wine Awards have identified the best British supermarket for wine, so next time you’re looking for a moderately good bottle for under a tenner, you’ll know where to go.

It comes as no surprise that Booth’s, the north’s answer to Waitrose, has been voted the best wine grocer in the country. Beating out fellow finalists Waitrose, Aldi, and Co-op, the northern retailer has a wide selection of wines from across the world, ranging in price from just over £10 to more than £100. Perfect if you fancy a proper treat, not so much for when you just need something to bring to a dinner party. If you're not in the north don't panic. It's 2024- you can order most of Booth's selection online

The awards, which took place in late February, are judged by a group of wine experts and regular consumers, so a wide range of tastes are accounted for. In fact, anyone who loves wine can apply to be a judge, so if you’re looking for an economical way to try that £150 bottle of Booth’s rosé that’s always an option.

If you’re curious about who else won big at the 2024 wine awards, you can find a full list of winners and runners up on the company’s website here.
