With its deep red walls, silk banquettes and a belly dancer performing on Friday and Saturday nights, Le Marrakech is a little bit of North Africa transplanted to Gastown. It opened in autumn 2007, and has just the sort of warmth the district needed. The seating may be slightly awkward (tables are a tad too low), but the tagines, laden with smen (clarified butter) and fragrant with toasted spices, are a heavenly retreat from a rainy Vancouver night. Try a mint tea mojito - mmm, now that's fusion.
