On an unprepossessing corner of the downtown Eastside awaits one of the warmest welcomes you'll find in the city. Owners Mark Brand and Neil Ingram gutted the inside of this high-ceilinged room themselves, kipping on the floor at night, and their passion for their first enterprise is palpable. The bar is a gem. Fancy a cocktail? Try a Caesar, with bacon and quail egg - it's a meal in a glass - or a Devine (named for a famous local bartender), with its floating rose petal. Or get Ingram - sommelier par excellence - to talk you through his short, ever-changing wine list. Food, courtesy of ex-Lumière sous, Jeremie Bastien, is inventive, fresh and constantly evolving. But it's the atmosphere that makes this place rock: you'll never want to go home.
