A loud and boisterous yakitori diner where skewers of charcoal-grilled meats (tsukune) take centre stage, as does the grill, with its glowing red-hot coals. The stick foods, which cost less than two dollars each, range from conventional (chicken meatballs, chicken wings, pork, beef with ponzu, vegetable skewers) to courageous (chicken heart, chicken liver and beef tongue). Other small, cheap plates include bitter squash with eggs, barbecue rice balls in tea soup, chicken teriyaki bowls and noodles. The Japanese servers speak fluent English, but service can sometimes be slow.
