It's not often someone opens a kid-friendly café that actually cares about the food - so it's no wonder this place is pumping at weekends. Scrambled eggs with sunchokes, caramelised onions and bacon, puffy French toast with bananas and syrup or good old boiled egg and soldiers are just the beginning of a constantly changing menu that takes care of all its charges, big or small. Vietnamese coffee, rich with condensed milk and served over ice is the perfect buzz alongside excellent cakes (owner Mary MacIntyre was once a pastry chef at Lumière) while the kids decompress. The large, airy room is furnished with indestructible tables, chairs and copious high chairs, as well as a wealth of vintage Fisher Price toys. No one will sniff if your toddler runs around - and any tantrums will quickly dissolve into the general din.
