Cathedral Hotel

Now that the revamped Adelaide Oval is kicking goals (50,000 screaming football/cricket fans is the norm), the similarly revamped Cathedral Hotel across the street is doing a roaring trade. The fact that the actual ‘cathedral’ – the landmark 1878 St Peter’s – is also across the street is beside the point. This is no time for piety: beer is what’s revered here, best consumed in the rooftop beer garden, from where you can spy the Adelaide Oval’s curvy rooftops. Inside, the marble bars, parquetry floors and heritage brickwork are all pretty gorgeous.
