JO JO DANCER, YOUR LIFE IS CALLING
D. Richard Pryor, USA, 1986, 35mm, 97 minutes

AFS Artistic Director Richard Linklater will introduce and take part in an audience discussion after the film.

The legendary standup comic Richard Pryor found great success in the 1970s along with a serious substance abuse problem and ongoing health problems. This is his tragicomic spiritual autobiography, lightly fictionalized, but intensely personal and self-reflective. It traces the life of a comic, Jo Jo Dancer, from his childhood in a brothel, through his early life in show business, and finally through his hellish addiction.

Part of the Series:

JEWELS IN THE WASTELAND: A TRIP THROUGH '80s CINEMA WITH RICHARD LINKLATER (1984-86)
Last year, AFS Artistic Director joined us for a screening and discussion series spotlighting some of the very best films made between 1980 and 1983. The event was a huge popular success. Audiences flocked to see these films, many of which had not been seen in theaters for decades, and also to hear Linklater's thoughts on them, and his observations about cinema as a whole.

This spring the series picks up where it left off, with a whole new slate of films, this time we are focusing on films made between the years 1984 and 1986. Each screening will feature a live introduction from Richard Linklater and a post-screening discussion on stage. A series pass is available or tickets may be purchased individually for the series.
