Various electricity thieves help residents by hooking up a house or business for a small fee. Consequently some areas of the city have dangerously overloaded poles with hundreds of wires streaming here and there. A new head of the city's electric company comes in and hopes to clean up the mess, but she meets her match in a fearless Robin Hood of the electric grid, Loha Singh. Co-director Fahad Mustafa was born in Kanpur, which he remembers with its “long, uncomfortable, waterless summers, spent without electricity. As a child I remember relatives facing unemployment due to the closure of the nationalized mills in Kanpur. I remember how in the following years, the power situation worsened. Livelihoods were at stake, and there were always stories about relatives and friends of the family, losing their incomes and businesses….
