The event creator says
In an effort to support and bring some relief to some of the families of the victims of police brutality against African-American men and women, Two-time Super Bowl Champion, Aaron Ross, and four-time Olympic Gold medalist, Sanya Richards-Ross will be hosting the Black Excellence Tribute in Austin, Texas on Saturday, March 28, 2015. This event will feature some of the finest talent in the Black community, showcasing Black excellence through song, spoken word and dance.

All of the net proceeds from the event will benefit the families of victims of police brutality in Texas, such as Larry Jackson, who was unarmed when shot in the back of the head by a plain-clothes APD Detective who suspected Mr. Jackson of being involved in an unrelated bank robbery. Mr. Jackson’s sister, LaKiza Jackson, will address the audience at BET in remembrance of her slain brother.

In partnership with the Texas Civil Rights Project and the People’s Task Force, the families of Byron Carter, Nathaniel Sanders and Jason Harrison, will also receive a portion of event proceeds.

In addition to bringing attention to recent acts of police brutality, as well as inspiring change through education, the tribute will also be an opportunity to support local Black artists, providing them a platform to perform in front of new and larger audiences.

To demonstrate to our youth that hard work does pay off, we want to celebrate, and compensate, the performers and their talents and skills as valued to society through their participation in the Black Excellence Tribute.

Aaron and Sanya are dedicating their time, energy and $10,000 of their own money to this worthy cause, but still need your help. Our goal is to compensate every talented act for their participation in this event, in addition to giving to these deserving families in an effort to help them in the aftermath of their devastating losses.

Your donation will help provide support for these families as well as some of our great local artists.
